Thailand is tolerant of Islam. They don't want to give Southern Thailand to the 19 different Islamic violent sectarian religious groups. I mean, they would, because Thailand is like "whatever, why fight about it" but of course they have no one to negotiate with so they meet with some guy who claims to represent the Islamic secessionists but you know violent leaders. They're all in it for the young boys. There's a lot of would-be warlords. None of them have the authority to speak for anyone because no one outside their tiny enclave knows who the fuck they are. They don't want a peace deal, or they'd have one. They just need the violence and killing to legitimise their existence.
