So I woke up at 6am this morning to find all my shit had been ripped into, cake mix all over the place....I had some pasta left over I planned on having for breakfast.

I was thinking about the opening strip being something that involves bath salts he thought was meth and then a comical tie in to drug use being his divine inspiration to join the military.

Like here it is, we have this anthropomorphic ape who always walks around wearing a sleeveless, frayed edge flannel, the grape ape himself, something, something, bath salts, with the closing panel of the first strip being a view from behind the ape looking in a bathroom mirror, one can see the back of his head shoulders etc. all hairy and ape like, but in the reflection, half of a face and bloodshot eyes exposing his true self: a bald Aryan caricature. Oh yeah, and he is holding up an Air Force pamphlet in the reflection. He will always be drawn as the ape outside of infrequent reflections showing otherwise.

In my opinion it should be a comfortable mix between the two, a la the real 408. The bizarre characters etc. would vastly override the underlying dark reality of the situation anyways, and most people won't even realize them, like that Hot Tube Time Machine movie. Just think of a way to make the bath salts funny with hijinks, like him talking to Scooter the black widow, and we can easily have a working rough of this thing.

Widow's name has to be Scooter I think. Reason being, a comic like this (cartoon, movie, book, whatever) is likely to appeal to a very broad audience if it's ever to make $$$ and the history you are all so familiar with will be very foreign to 99.9% of the audience SO what's funny? Likely to appeal to kids and soccer moms?

Scooter fits PERFECTLY, kids would love that, it gives the spider an innocent tone, something childish and entertaining. Kids would dig that while adults would dig the sage life coaching advice given etc.
