The idea for the Terrafugia Transition Flying Car has been on the drawing board for more than five years, but today this idea become true.
Terrafugia, Inc. Company is responsible for developing the Transition car-plane, which will allow the company to begin delivering the Transition next year when it is ready
Particular to vehicles that fly and drive on roads, the exemptions will allow the Transition to use plastic windows instead of standard automotive safety glass, and tires not normally allowed for multi-purpose vehicles. The Transitions' tires are rated for highway speeds and designed to handle the impact of landings.
Last year, the FAA granted the company permission for the Transition to weigh 110 pounds more than normally is allowed for light sport aircraft.
Because of production challenges and hitches with suppliers, last month Terrafugia announced they would delay deliveries of the vehicle. However, the company expects to deliver the first production "roadable aircraft" next year.
