Grapefruit mamosa trip report: for gare's eyes only

So I was drinking with some friends last night, and I decided to chase my dream, the grapefruit mamosa. We went to the liqour store, and I got cheap champange, pure grapefruit juice. The idea is that bitterness of the grapefruit juice will be counter acted by the cheap champange, since cheap champ. is usually sweet. I also picked up some pineapple juice as an emergency incase the grapefruit mamosa didn't work. We got back, and we mixed them together, and they were good, a bit like an alcoholic squirt. but it was a little too biter. So I added a splash, just a hint of pineapple juice. And gare, let me tell you, that was the secret. It was a magnificent drink.


BUT.....


The grapefruit juice KILLED my stomach. Just destroyed it. It was so harsh, gave me the worst indigestion. It still hurts this after noon. So, the final verdict for me is that it's a delicious drink, but not worth the pain.

I really prefer a good Caesar over a Mimosa for a morning / brunch type drink. But Mimi's Cafe has a OJ and champagne thingie on the menu that I might indulge in if I can ever get the hubby to go there before 11 AM.

Incidentally, Mimi's Cafe started serving hard liquor this year and they make a fucking amazing lemon drop martini.

They bring the glass of OJ separately from the champagne. So you pour it yourself. If you order an extra champagne, you can get the ratios just right.

Also, I don't use tomato juice per se when I make a Caesar. It's Clamato, which fucking owns.

Here's what I do with Clamato.

Pour a half glass (tall preferably) of top shelf vodka over ice. Pour Clamato over it to the 3/4 level. Add Worcestershire, squeeze in fresh garlic, a dash of horseradish, and Vietnamese hot sauce. Squeeze in fresh lime and garnish with celery and olives.

The BEST.
