Hurricane Michael

Initially this was heading directly toward Destin and Fort Walton Beach where I have friends. I haven't paid much attention but looks like it shifted course and obliterated Mexico Beach and the Eastern half of Panama City. Holy fuck.

I've spent time in this area. It's full of newer well built homes that I'm pretty sure were built following strict hurricane construction standards.

This is reminiscent of Ike and the Crystal Beach devastation. I've spent months of my life in that area too, and wouldn't say it's anywhere nearly as flat and susceptible to storm surge and flooding as most of the Emerald Coast area. Remember Gamble having to get a government mandated tetanus shot just to enter the disaster area to collect any belongings from their family beach house? Those pics of nothing but a toilet left were HOF, but the people that lived there and didn't get out all pretty much either died or had to be dramatically rescued. There are still some that were never found.
