Picking Potatoes
Today's picture was taken in 1940, and it shows children picking potatoes. The picture was taken near Caribou, Maine. In this area, schools did not open until the potato harvest was brought in.https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...s.blogspot.com http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/...jWdxh1qxk/0/di http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/...jWdxh1qxk/1/di http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/blogs...~4/rENp_aKicS4 More... |

Meridiani Planum Crater
This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows a crater formed in light-toned, layered, sedimentary rocks in Meridiani Planum. This crater is located approximately 55 kilometers (~34 miles) southwest of the Mars Exploration Rover, Opportunity, site. Erosion of sedimentary rock layers around the crater rim has caused an uneven retreat, resulting in the formation of U-shaped alcoves where undermining and collapse have occurred. Dark material in this scene is probably sand and granules, similar to the dark surfaces explored by the Opportunity rover. MGS MOC Release No. MOC2-1200, 31 August 2005

Chajnantor Starry Night
A crystal-clear sky on any night is always a joy to behold. But if you are on the Chajnantor Plateau, at 5000 meters altitude in the Chilean Andes and one of the best places in the world for astronomical observations, it could be an experience that you’ll remember for your whole life.
This panoramic view of Chajnantor shows the antennas of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) against a breathtaking starry night sky. In the foreground, we can see some of ALMA’s antennas, working together. The plateau appears curved, because of the effect of the wide-angle lens used. ALMA is the world’s most powerful telescope for studying the Universe at submillimeter and millimeter wavelengths. Construction work for ALMA will be completed in 2013, and a total of 66 of these high-precision antennas will be operating on the site. At the moment, the telescope is in its initial phase of Early Science Observations. Even though it is not fully constructed, the telescope is already producing outstanding results, outperforming all other submillimeter arrays. In the sky above the antennas, countless stars shine like distant jewels. Two other familiar celestial objects also stand out. First, the image is crowned by the Moon. Second, outshone by the glow of the Moon, it is possible to distinguish the Milky Way as a hazy stripe across the sky. Dark regions within the band are areas where the light from background stars is blocked by interstellar dust. This photograph was taken by ESO Photo Ambassador, Babak Tafreshi. Babak is founder and leader of The World At Night, an international project to produce and exhibit a collection of stunning photographs and time-lapse videos of the world’s landmarks with a backdrop of the most beautiful celestial wonders. ALMA, an international astronomy facility, is a partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. ALMA construction and operations are led on behalf of Europe by ESO, on behalf of North America by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), and on behalf of East Asia by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ). The Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO) provides the unified leadership and management of the construction, commissioning and operation of ALMA. Credits: ESO/B. Tafreshi (twanight.org) More... |

Her name was Mookie, but I had to change it. I already have Smokey and Misha. Mookie just wouldn’t work! She is about nine months old in this picture taken right after I got her. She is such a sweet kitten and loves attention. She is just an angel. More... |
2012 WPT Borgata Poker Open Day 1B: Brian Lemke Takes Strong Lead
Day 1B of the 2012 World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgata Poker Open is in the books and Pennsylvania’s Brian Lemke bagged what turned out to be by far the most chips of anyone in either starting flight. With 272, 575 chips he outpaced fellow Day 1B players Kyle Bowker and James Poper by sizable 71,000 and 87,000 chip margins, respectively. Those three also comprise the trio atop the overall leaderboard, as nobody in Day 1A was able to even eclipse the 180,000 chip mark.
Monday saw another 807 pay the $3,300 + $200 to enter the WPT Borgata Poker Open Main Event, more than double the 374 that did so on Day 1A. The two day total of 1,181 registrants created a prize pool of $3,897,300, of which the winner will receive $818,847. In all, 110 players will make the money, with payouts starting at $7,070. Everyone at the six-handed television final table, plus the TV bubble boy, will receive paychecks in the six-figures. The complete payout structure is as follows: 1.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $818,847 2.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $488,850 3.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $298,950 4.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $250,065 5.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $206,821 6.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $167,337 7.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $131,613 8.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $97,770 9.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toads _then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $69,003 10-12.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $44,937 13-15.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $30,083 16-18.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $20,118 19-27.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $16,922 28-36.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $14,665 37-45.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $12,785 46-54.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $10,905 55-63.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $9,589 64-72.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $8,762 73-81.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $8,085 82-90.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toad s_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $7,446 91-100.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toa ds_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $7,258 100-110.dark_stars_parents_suck_the_dicks_off_cane_toa ds_then_fuck_them_back_on_comdotcom.com $7,070 Our chip leader, Brian Lemke, is not a household name in the world of poker, but it is not because his live tournament career has been devoid of success. He is the proud owner of a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, earned in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event in 2009, a win which earned him just shy of $700,000. Two years later, he placed 14th in that same event, though that only paid $41,712. Other notable cashes include an even $100,000 for a third place finish in the $3,300 No-Limit Hold’em Championship Event at the 2010 Foxwoods Poker Classic and $111,076 from a win in the $500 No-Limit Hold’em Re-entry event at the 2012 Borgata Spring Poker Open. All told, Brian Lemke has won $1,132,840 in his live tournament career. Lemke and the rest of the remaining 625 players from Days 1A and 1B return to Atlantic City’s Borgata casino Tuesday afternoon for Day 2 of the 2012 WPT Borgata Poker Open. 2012 World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open – Day 1B Chip Leaders
