Day 2 of the 2012 European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo Main Event has come and gone and of the 430 players who began the first day of the tournament with a combined field, just 152 made it to Monday. Breaking away from the pack late in the day was Norwayâ€™s Inge Forsmo who finished Sunday with 606,100 chips. Behind him is Jason Tompkins with an even half million, followed by Charly Maracchione with 404,000 chips.

Forsmo was in excellent shape going into Day 2, sitting in 20th place with 123,700. But it was one big hand on Sunday that really set him sailing. We donâ€™t have all the details of the hand, but what we do know is that on the turn, the board showed K-6-Q-8 and there were about 140,000 chips in the pot. Forsmo began the turn betting with a 62,000 chip wager and Nikoay Tyurin called. Oleg Larichev had just 4,300 chips remaining in his stack, so he put them all at risk. When the 3 was dealt on the river, Forsmo moved all-in and Tyurin took that as a cue to commit all 80,000 chips he still had left in front of him. Tyurinâ€™s hand was solid – K-Q – giving him top two pair, but Forsmo had him dead to rights holding 6-6 for a set. Larichev had the worst hand of the three: two pair, Kings and Threes.

Both Tyurin and Larichev were eliminated, while Forsmo took down the 346,000 chip pot to grow his stack to 470,000, good enough for the chip lead.

Inge Forsmo has an almost non-existent live poker tournament resume, but so did everybody at some point. The first cash in his live career came in 2011 when he placed 7th in the $1,000 No-Limit Holdâ€™em event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure ($14,500). This year, he finished 2nd in the $1,000 No-Limit Holdâ€™em Rivers event at the same poker festival, earning $20,305. That buy-in appears to be a trend for Forsmo, as he finished 31st in a $1,000 No-Limit Holdâ€™em event at the 2012 World Series of Poker ($10,776). All told, he has won $45,581 in live tournaments, a sum he would more than double if he can continue his run and finish in the top twelve at EPT San Remo.

The money bubble will burst on Mondayâ€™s Day 3, as just 32 eliminations are needed to see the first person get paid â‚¬8,000. The cards have been in the air for a while now, so weâ€™ll keep an eye on things and report back tomorrow with more updates.
