Burning
Because of the absence of gravity, fuels burning in space behave very differently than they do on Earth. In this image, a 3-millimeter diameter droplet of heptane fuel burns in microgravity, producing soot. When a bright, uniform backlight is placed behind the droplet and flame and recorded by a video camera, the soot appears as a dark cloud. Image processing techniques can then quantify the soot concentration at each point in the image. On the International Space Station, the Flame Extinguishing Experiment examines the combustion of such liquid fuel droplets. This colorized gray-scale image is a composite of the individual video frames of the backlit fuel droplet. The bright yellow structure in the middle is the path of the droplet, which becomes smaller as it burns. Initial soot structures (in green) tend to form near the liquid fuel. These come together into larger and larger particles which ultimately spiral out of the flame zone in long, twisting streamers. Image Credit: NASA

Robin Venable
http://www.aadstatic.com/uploads/rob..._354345345.jpg
About Robin: Robin Venable received an MFA from Florida State University in 2009. Prior to that she studied painting at Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. Her paintings are built up of layers of tracing paper and acrylic paint, allowing the viewer to glimpse different levels rather than focus a single painted surface. Likewise, human figures only feature among other ornery in her compositions. Venable regards the current art climate as a vacuum created by postmodernism, characterized by a hunger for spiritual renaissance. But she sees this as no reason for despair. ‘I seduce the viewers with texture and intimate scale in the hopes of recreating my own religious revelations for them,’ she says. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and awarded numerous distinctions, including first place at the FBC Arts Festival in 2009. http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/...mjkNDdpXY/0/di http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/...mjkNDdpXY/1/di http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Arti...?d=yIl2AUoC8zA http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Arti...MU:F7zBnMyn0Lo http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Arti...MU:V_sGLiPBpWU http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Arti...?d=qj6IDK7rITs http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Arti...MU:gIN9vFwOqvQ http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Artis...~4/i5eqlaOe9rI More... |

Cali-the-Labrador-Mix
http://cdn-www.dailypuppy.com/dog-im...05-25_w450.jpg
Cali is my very first puppy and such a lovable little stinker. Her father was a long-haired, brown Dachshund and her mother was a black Lab. Cali is very spunky and loves to play and run! She is intelligent and enjoys challenging herself by playing games with us. Rawhide sticks, ropes (and sometimes Mommy's fingers!) are her favorite things to chew on. But don't forget her best friend "Dog"! She loves to carry him around, eat and sleep with him too. She's great at fetch and adores playing a game of chase or tag in the grass. Cali loves naps on the couch, being on her back and getting her belly rubbed. I am so glad to have her a part of my family! We love her! More... |
One Day Some Kittens Came Visiting - May 25, 2011

One Day Some Kittens Came Visiting Henrik says: I took these pictures approximately 2 ½ years ago. The kittens all belongs to our next door neighbour. This was the first time we saw them outside. We where out in the garden, when all of a sudden they started to come through the hedgerow. Seven of them in all! Quite a show actually :-) . I grabbed the camera and started shooting. They tumbled around for a good half hour before returning back to their own garden. Our neighbours kept three of the kittens and managed to find new homes for the rest of the litter.
