I love Spokane, one of the hidden gems of the Northwest. I'm always excited to be traveling through this city and it lends itself so well to photography. I spent the entire day taking pictures and settled in to eat dinner at a local restaurant. I was shocked when I left the restaurant to see the entire city enveloped in fog. I loved the way the lights shone through the fog and silhouetted the people as they walked. I grabbed my camera and took a few quick shots. This was my favorite, I love the lady walking alone and the way the stairs frame her.(This photo and caption were submitted to the 2011 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest.)

A Green Ring Fit for a Superhero

This glowing emerald nebula seen by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope is reminiscent of the glowing ring wielded by the superhero Green Lantern. In the comic books, the diminutive Guardians of the Planet "Oa" forged his power ring, but astronomers believe rings like this are actually sculpted by the powerful light of giant "O" stars, the most massive type of star known to exist. Named RCW 120, this region of hot gas and glowing dust can be found in the murky clouds encircled by the tail of the constellation Scorpius. The ring of dust actually is glowing in infrared colors that our eyes cannot see, but show up brightly when viewed by Spitzer's infrared detectors. At the center of this ring are a couple of giant stars whose intense ultraviolet light has carved out the bubble, though they blend in with other stars when viewed in infrared. This bubble is far from unique. Just as the Guardians of Oa have selected many beings to serve as Green Lanterns and patrol different sectors of space, Spitzer has found that such bubbles are common and an can be found around O stars throughout our Milky Way galaxy. The small objects at the lower right area of the image may themselves be similar regions seen at much greater distances across the galaxy. Rings like this are so common in Spitzer's observations that astronomers have even enlisted the help of the public to help them find and catalog them all. Official Synopsis, Trailer For Mario Van Peebles' 'We The Party'

I first profiled this film in March on the old site; at the time, I couldn't find an official synopsis, so wasn't entirely sure what it was about; although I did post a teaser trailer that gave us some idea - a teaser that's since been taking down, but, thankfully, it was replaced with a new one, which I embedded below. As a recap... Shot last summer, but with no distributor yet, and thus no scheduled release date, the film, 'We The Party' (not to be confused with We The Peeples), was previewed at a February screening in Los Angeles, and was apparently well-received.

This is Sunny. Sunny was found tangled in a bush outside of an office park by my husband and five year old son. My husband untangled her from the bush and figured she would run off but she ran to my son and started purring instead. My husband moved her away from my son and she ran to him again. He moved her again and this time she ran into the road so my husband picked her up and brought her home figuring we would bring her to a shelter as we have two dogs already. When we called the shelter they refused to take her and told us to bring her back where we found her. We knew this would be a death sentence for her so we brought her to the vet instead who told us she was only four weeks old but perfectly healthy. Sunny came home with us and hasn’t left our house. Our 11 month old Golden Retriever became h er surrogate mother and two have become inseparable. Sunny is the most loving kitten and loves to be held and cuddled, which we never expected from a stray kitten.
