Full-Frame Image of Vesta
NASA's Dawn spacecraft obtained this image of the giant asteroid Vesta with its framing camera on July 24, 2011. It was taken from a distance of about 3,200 miles (5,200 kilometers). Dawn entered orbit around Vesta on July 15, and will spend a year orbiting the body. After that, the next stop on its itinerary will be an encounter with the dwarf planet Ceres. The Dawn mission to Vesta and Ceres is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. It is a project of the Discovery Program, managed by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala. UCLA is responsible for overall Dawn mission science. Orbital Sciences Corporation of Dulles, Va., designed and built the Dawn spacecraft. The framing cameras have been developed and built under the leadership of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Katlenburg-Lindau, Germany, with significant contributions by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Institute of Planetary Research, Berlin, and in coordination with the Institute of Computer and Communication Network Engineering, Braunschweig, Germany. The framing camera project is funded by NASA, the Max Planck Society and DLR.

Ronnie Kaiser Wins EPT Tallinn
The eighth season of the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) has its first champion. Switzerland’s Ronnie Kaiser became the country’s first EPT winner by running over the field at Tallinn this week to earn a first-place prize of €275,000.
Kaiser claimed the chip lead on Day 3 and maintained the pole position nearly the rest of the way. His dominance was capped by a swift four-and-a-half hour final table in which he eliminated five of his seven opponents, including high-stakes online cash legend Sami “LrsLzk” Kelopuro, who bowed out in seventh place when his river bluff was picked off by Kaiser’s straight. The 21-year-old Kaiser’s next victim was Stuart Fox, but not before a short-stacked Erlend Melsom was eliminated by Jani Sointula in sixth place. Fox was crippled when his Ah-Qd ran into the pocket kings of Sointula, and then his eights were no match for the trip kings of Kaiser to send him out in fifth. Kaiser increased his stack even more by way of Sointula, whose As-Kd couldn’t improve against the pocket sevens of Kaiser after all the chips went in preflop. That left three players vying for the title, but it wouldn’t last long. Estonia’s last hope for an EPT champion was destroyed on the very next hand when Raigo Aasmaa three-bet shoved from the big blind with Kh-10h and found himself up against the pocket aces of Grzegorz Cichock. The board gave Cichock a diamond flush on the turn, setting up a heads-up battle between the two big stacks at the start of the day. Kaiser widened his lead early on in the match and dealt a final blow by calling a mistimed four-bet by Cichock to end the tournament. With the blinds at 15,000/30,000 and a 4,000 ante, Cichocki min-raised to 60,000 and Ronny Kaiser three-bet to 165,000. Cichocki then moved all-in for around 1.4 million. Kaiser took a moment before calling with Ac-9s, which was in front of Cichocki’s 8d-6d. Kaiser flopped an ace and Cichocki was left dead on the turn. The Swiss rail erupted as Kaiser had successfully dismantled the final to claim the largest win of his young career. Kaiser’s biggest cash entering the week came at European Poker Championship in 2009, where he finished fifth for $73,146. He also placed 20th at last year’s EPT stop in San Remo for $43,035. “It’s very nice to win,” Kaiser told the PokerStars Blog Sunday. “I’ve been the chip leader for three days but I’ve got deep before and always finished 20th. This time I thought, ‘I should win this.’” Here’s a look at the final table results of the 2011 EPT Tallinn Main Event: 1. Ronny Kaiser — €275,000 2. Grzegorz Cichocki — €180,000 3. Raigo Aasmaa — €110,000 4. Jani Sointula — €80,000 5. Stuart Fox — €55,000 6. Erlend Melson — €45,000 7. Sami Kelopuro — €35,000 8. Arvi Vainionkulma — €25,000 The EPT’s next stop is in Barcelona later this month. The Main Event kicks off on August 27 as Sweden’s Kent Lundmark attempts to defend his title. More... |

Full Tilt Lays Off U.S. Employees, Ray Bitar Still CEO, and They Pay AGCC
http://cdn.wickedchopspoker.com/wp-c...l-tilt-ceo.jpg Hey Mikey, if you want us to keep paying you too, quit ripping us on QuadJacks and STFU already...
Lumping a few small Full Tilt Poker posts into one medium sized write-up on this one. We’re hearing from multiple sources that the aforementioned Full Tilt Poker has (finally) laid off some of their U.S.-based employees. Giving credit where it’s due, although these layoffs should’ve happened around 1pm PT on April 15th, our sources say that Tilt is paying in full all laid off employees for time served from April through now. One employee who amazingly still has a job is Federally indicted CEO Ray Bitar. We had previously reported a rumor (that we cited we needed a second source on, which we never got) that Bitar was voted out of his position. This story, sadly, ruined his day. We’ve since heard that Howard Ledererat least played a part in blocking Bitar’s ouster. By all accounts, Lederer is fiercely loyal to Bitar, and in general, loyalty (as evidenced by Tilt paying their U.S.-based employees) is paramount over all at Tilt. Finally, Full Tilt managed to pay the approximate $450,000 owed to the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC). This opens the door for getting their gaming license reinstated. On that note, negotiations with Ivey’s White KnightTM (and Ivey’s White Knight with the AGCC and DoJ) are still on-going. At this time, we are not aware of any other parties involved with or interest in buying Full Tilt Poker. Related Posts

She finally decided that wet kitten food was tolerable. More... |
Baboon Chase
http://blog.wildlife-pictures-online...np-3558-bl.jpg
Caption: Big male chacma baboon chases smaller male baboon in typical example of the frequent skirmishes, fights, and chases that occur within baboon troops, Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe. Camera: Canon EOS 50D; Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 L USM; Focal Length: 400mm; Shutter speed: 1/2000; Aperture: f/5.6; ISO: 400. During a recent visit to Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, we parked for a couple of hours at one the many pans to watch the wildlife coming to the pan to drink. This makes sense in Hwange, where game drives can be fairly barren of wildlife, whereas the waterholes and pans consistently reward those with patience. On this occasion we saw a good variety of animals, including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, and zebra arriving at the pan to drink. During this activity, a troop of chacma baboons (Papio ursinus) arrived, as thirsty as the rest. Soon they were crouching down to drink, both in groups and as individuals. Then the fun started, as they began squabbling and skirmishing, with frequent baring of teeth and other displays of aggression, threat, and counterthreat. As Peter Apps explains in his book Wild Ways, a dispute between two males often sets off a chain reaction of squabbles, chases and fights in the rest of the troop. To find out more about this behavior and see a series of pictures illustrating baboon aggression and fights, see Baboon Skirmishes and Chases.
