Fall and Winter Style

http://0.tqn.com/d/blackhair/1/0/0/3/-/-/straight.jpgCooler weather often brings about a hairstyle change. Instead of the short 'dos so common in spring and summer, women sometimes go for longer tresses in fall and winter, the better to keep delicate ears and necks warm.

Whether your hair is relaxed, natural, texturized, BKT'd or pressed, keeping it healthy through the chilly seasons isn't always easy.

Need hair tips to keep your mane in tip-top shape? Try these if you're revamping your hair care routine or need a place to start:

Start a good regimen now and your hair will remain healthy and strong, no matter what the weather.

Quick Tip: Line Those Wool Hats

http://0.tqn.com/d/blackhair/1/0/W/8...t-hat-blog.jpgI have a quick tip now that many of us will soon be pulling out wooly hats and scarves to keep warm.

While useful and pretty much necessary if you live in a snowy climate, wool hats can be murder on black hair. You can still cover your head, but make sure any hats you wear are lined with silk or satin.

Because it's not always easy to find such hats, you may have to learn how to line your hats yourself. Don't worry if you're no seamstress; this lining will be inside your hat and no one has to see it, so it doesn't have to be perfect.

I found a tutorial on a headband-type liner (it shows fleece in the tutorial, but don't use fleece!), but the same concept works for covering the entire interior of your hat. Great seaming isn't what's important here. It's much more important that you put a silky layer of something between your hair and your hat.

Save Time on Hair Styling

http://0.tqn.com/d/blackhair/1/0/q/6...ithhighbun.jpg

As much as I'd love unlimited time to spend playing in my hair, I just don't have it. And I suspect that many of you out there don't have an hour to spend styling your hair every morning, either -- especially if you also have to style a child's hair, fix breakfast, dress kids, get ready for work and a lot of other tasks that really cut into your beauty routine.

Just because you don't have a ton of time doesn't mean you can't stroll out the door looking good. If you take a few minutes to prep at night, you can significantly reduce your style time in the morning, as this article on saving time on hair styling shows. Of course, you also have easy 'do options that only take minutes to fashion, like the high bun pictured here.

What are your quick and easy hairstyle fixes when you just don't have a lot of time?

Whip It -- Whip it Good!

http://z.about.com/d/blackhair/1/0/r...hea-butter.jpg

Shea butter is one of my favorite hair products/ingredients. While it's perfectly fine to use it straight from the container, I like whipping mine as it makes it easier to get out of the jar. This how to whip shea butter tutorial shows you how to whip your shea butter into a light, fluffy concoction that retains all of its natural goodness.
