The Department of Disease Control has issued a list of nine Thai dishes that could potentially cause diarrhea during the summer.

According to the Department, the number of diarrhea patients between Jan. 1 to Mar. 10 totaled 191,515. One patient reportedly died from complications resulting from the condition. The Department warned restaurants across Thailand to pay more attention to hygiene in the kitchen and warned diners to wash their hands before each meal.

Below is the list of Thai foods that easily go bad in the hot weather, subsequently posing a risk to the health of diners.

1. Larb/Koi or spicy Isaan meat salad: This dish is a combination of ground meat seasoned with fish sauce, limejuice, chili and herbs. Both dishes are similar except that Koi uses raw meat.

2. Yum Goong Dten or “spicy shrimp salad”: This dish’s Thai name literally means “Dancing Shrimp Salad,” suggesting that live shrimp are main ingredient to the dish.

3. Yum Hoy Krang or “spicy cockle salad”: Diners need to make sure that cockles are given a good rinse before eating them.

4. Fried rice topped with crabmeat

5. All coconut milk recipes: Phanaeng curry, Massaman curry, chicken green curry, coconut custard, Bualoy, Saku Biak, you name it.

6. Kanom Jeen or “fermented Thai rice noodle”: Since Kanom Jeen is made from rice that has been fermented for three days, it can rot quickly.

7. Khao Man Gai or “chicken rice”

8. Som Tam or “spicy green papaya salad”

9. Green salad

The Department also warns diners of ice and suggests them not to eat food that has been left out overnight.

Residents in Buri Ram’s Satuek district are paying respect and making offerings to a kitten corpse, believing that it could bring them luck for the next lotto drawing.

Fifty-two-year-old Krod Yodjongrum said that while she was enjoying Thai sausages with her children last Saturday, she discovered that the last piece of sausage contained some unexpected remains. Krod said that she was initially disgusted and furious but later thought that the remains could be a good sign. The corpse, which Krod kept for worshipping, has attracted a large number of visitors, who have come in search for tips for their lotto purchases.

Satuek police said that the sausage’s maker might have ground the kitten with pork in order to save cost, but the grinder did not function well. According to Thairath, police will summon the vendor for questioning.

Krod said that a spirit medium had told her that if the sausage had been moved out of the village, calamities might have occurred.

Krod, at the moment, has decided to allows police officers to only cut a small amount of tissue from the corpse for inspection. She will hold a merit-making Buddhist ritual dedicated to the deceased feline on Mar. 21.

According to MThai, Satuek authorities said that the sausage’s maker had conducted business for about two years and this was the first irregularity.

The number of monks that have been drugged and robbed has increased significantly during the past two months, totaling 24 cases since 2012, according to Phra Kru Worasangkakij of Priest Hospital.

Phra Kru Worasangkakij said that robbers target monks at bus or train stations, pretending to offer meals to them. These meals are laced with hypnotic drugs, which then incapacitate the monks, allowing the culprits to steal money from them.

In the first three months of 2013, 11 monks have been reportedly admitted to the hospital after they were found unconscious at public transport stations. Phra Kru Worasangkakij urges the public to help call police if they see any irregularities, Dailynews reported.
