Inflamed by right wing rhetoric, bouncy castles continue to inflict lethal damage.


Two people have been charged with manslaughter after a seven-year-old girl died when the bouncy castle she was playing on blew away.
Summer Grant, from Norwich, suffered serious injuries at a funfair in Harlow, Essex, in 2016.
Paramedics were called to Harlow Town Park but Summer died in hospital.
Essex Police said fairground workers Shelby Thurston, 25, and William Thurston, 28, had been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence.
The pair, from Whitecross Road, Wilburton, Cambridgeshire, have also been charged with failure to discharge a general health and safety duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
They are due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court next week.

Police have said they want to trace a witness who was near the fairground rides at the time of the incident.
He was described as a young black man, believed to be in his teens, the force said.
At the opening of an inquest into Summer's death last April, Chelmsford Coroner's Court heard high winds had taken the dome-shaped inflatable "some distance".
The inquest was also told Summer was thought to have died from multiple injuries.
A vigil held in her memory in April saw about 200 people gather at the park and have a two-minute silence.

A local homeowner in East Hampton was cited this week for using a large inflatable bounce house as living quarters for his staff.

Police became aware of the situation when the man’s neighbors called to complain about a bounce house that had remained inflated on the man’s property for several days.

“This was a large, orange bounce house, or what we used to call a moonwalk, like you might see at a fun fair,” Hamptons Police spokesman Larry Hirsch said. “You couldn’t miss it in the guy’s yard, and the air compressor that kept it inflated made a terrible racket day and night.”

Hirsch reported that it appeared that the homeowner’s cook, butler, chauffeur and personal secretary were using the bounce house as a communal bedroom.

“This particular guy had gone to the town to try to get them to allow him to add an addition to his already sizable house in order to have quarters for his help,” Hirsch said. “I guess when the town said no way, he must have thought he could get away with putting them up in an inflatable.”

Hirsch explained that this is the first time such a housing arrangement has come to the attention of the local police, but he wouldn’t be surprised if other people are trying something similar.

In recent years, the Hamptons Police Department has given citations and made arrests for residents renting out bizarre spaces such as an igloo, a doghouse, sheds, a pool house, artist studios and more.

CASWELL CO., NC (WSET) The former owner of the Mega Bounce indoor playground in Danville is now facing the death penalty in North Carolina.

The prosecutor in Caswell County indicated that intention in court Tuesday morning.

Donald Layne is accused of killing Juanita Hankins at her home in Caswell County in September 2018, and sexually assaulting and trying to kill her daughter, Stephanie Snead.

Snead was a former employee at Mega Bounce.

Warrants state that Layne broke into the house to go after her.

He is also still facing charges in Danville, accused of holding a female employee hostage and sexually assaulting her.

It's unclear if that female was Snead.

No trial date is set yet in North Carolina. In Danville, online court records list April 23 as the date to set the trial.

An employer at an indoor bounce house in Belmont, California is accused of inappropriately touching a 7-year-old girl and taking photographs of her.

Tavi Benelli, 18, is accused of luring the victim into a private room of Pump It Up, typically known as a place for kids to have fun, according to KTVU in San Francisco. There, in that private room, he allegedly told her to start jumping. She did, and he allegedly took photos of her doing so.

"And she looked over her shoulder and realized he had his cell phone and was taking photos of her from behind. And she says what are you doing and he said just keep jumping," San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said, according to KTVU.

After the photo taking, Benelli allegedly touched the child.

"Then he walked up to her and said you've got a dead bug on your behind and he took his hand and brushed her behind with his hand as if knocking off a dead bug. All made up. All a ruse."

The child reported the incident to her nanny, who in turn contacted her parents, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Benelli pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges of committing a lewd act with a child under age 14 and destroying or concealing evidence, along with a misdemeanor charge of molesting or annoying a minor. He allegedly tried to delete the photos from his phone.

It?s unclear if Benelli has a lawyer who can speak on his behalf at this time. His bail was set at $350,000. His next court date has been scheduled for April 15.

He could face up to a decade prison if convicted on the charges.
