The record companies have succeeded in creating a brand/image interchangeable character - think about it, how many of these lame ass mumble rappers with dreads that dress the same, usually wear shades, and dance doing the same hand motions etc. are there that all sound identical? The exact same business model has obviously succeeded in other genres, just observe the interchangeable bro country artists that use the same chord progressions, same lyrics, all while having virtually identical looks with western plaid shirts.
