Man accused of attempted murder

ELIZABETHTON ? A man accused of throwing a switched-on power tool into the face of another man has been charged with attempted murder.
The incident took place Monday on Mill Street. Officers of the Elizabethton Police Department responded to Medical Care, West Elk Avenue, where they found the victim being treated for a cut to the right cheek. The wound was describe as a cut, with grind marks, that required stitches.
The victim told police that he was injured by Scotty Ray Quinton, 42, 701 Allen Ave., Apt. 11. The victim said he had gotten into an argument with Quinton over how much he had charged Quinton?s girlfriend $7 per milligram for drugs. He said Quinton accused him of taking advantage of his girlfriend.
The victim said Quinton was getting irate, so he told him ?if you want to throw, we will throw.? He said Quinton answered ?I don?t fight, I kill.?
The victim said he grabbed a hammer because Quinton had a Marketa angle grinder for metal. The victim said Quinton ?revved? it up and threw it in his face. Bystanders then jumped in and broke up the altercation.
Officers said that because of death threats Quinton made, the dangerous equipment used, and the part of the body that was attacked, Quinton was charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Quinton appeared in Sessions Court on Tuesday. He was appointed a public defender and is scheduled to return to court on March 5.
The victim was charged with drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
