Logic also disagrees with you big time as the more a particular manufacturer makes the news with people dying in car crashes or whatever the less people buy them. Look at toyota for example, a few people died when they had some sticky gas pedals or something and within 2 years toyota has slipped from #1 to like #5 in terms of US sales. People are trendy and bad publicity hurts thus it's in the best interest of the company in question to keep people safe.
I tried doing that once, albeit in the reverse direction after the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, where I'd ditched my friends after meeting this Jewish chick who was - fucking - insane.
