The problem with the repairs is this- he told me (and even cut a check for $150 to date) that he would pay HALF for ANYTHING I needed to do to the car while it was under my care and presumably he would take over someday. That half was a minimum, contingent on the fact that eventually he would probably get the most use out of the car.
Serves you right for not getting it in writing and not converting to Islam, crusader.
