I dont have the link but i read a few months ago an article documenting the increasing decline of organised religeon in advanced (western) economies. The basic idea was that in substution of this control over society these is now a financial obligation "religeon" of debt and credit causing the lower to middle class to be in a constant cycle of paycheck to paycheck and unable to ever rise up or complain and gradually have their power eroded.
The constant growth at any cost and striving for 3-4% GDP and rise in asset prices and food further constrains those wtih little ever turning it into alot.
cue rant about globalisation and wealth transfer from west to east, economies of scale unassailable by individual and small business.
