Daisy-the-Mixed-Breed
Daisy is a fun and lovable puppy. Rescued from a shelter, she is always exploring and is very curious about her new home. Most of all, she loves to play games! When all is said and done, she likes to cuddle up for a nap. She has floppy ears that always get wet when she tries to drink water. What a silly puppy!

Four Fashionable Fosters Part 1: Armani - April 28, 2011
Four Fashionable Fosters Part 1: Armani
Jaime says: I picked up four little guys from the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care & Adoption Center on February 8, 2011. They were around two to three weeks old. We did not know their history, but I was told that they'd been left outside an industrial building inside of a cardboard box. My theory is that someone's cat had kittens and the owner didn't want to deal with it so they decided to dispose of them. Luckily, a good samaritan stumbled upon them and they ended up with me! They were very healthy, and had no fleas or any dirt. They were just a little messy due to being in a box and having to sit in their own filth for probably less than a day. Anyway, they got their first baths and settled in quickly! They were probably some of the messiest kittens I've ever had -- and this was my 12th foster litter! I actually had to put them in a crate for a few weeks to control them and their craziness… haha! Once they were around five weeks old they started to behave better and grew into such funny little lovebugs. They stayed healthy the entire time they were with me, so needless to say I was thankful. </p>
I hate choosing favorites, but I'd be lying if I said Armani wasn't my favorite of this litter. Talk about a sweet cuddlebug! I've never in my life seen such a loving baby before, and all this boy wanted was to be with you and be held. He LOVED being held. He didn't care how, either. Infact, he often preferred just sitting in the palm of one hand while he groomed himself. When I'd walk into the room, he'd run over to me and literally sit on his hind legs and practically beg for me to pick him up!
Armani and his siblings were ready to go back for adoption at the end of March, and I said my goodbyes to them on March 28. Don't worry though, all four were adopted so quickly that they never even made it onto the Web site. That made me very happy. :-) I don't know if Armani or any of his sisters were adopted together or not, but for him it wouldn't have mattered, just so long as he had a new owner that was simply willing to love on him.

Lots of Layers in Terby Crater
Erosion has revealed many sedimentary rock layers in this image in Terby Crater. Terby, a 170 kilometer (approximately 100 mile) crater along the northern edge of Hellas Planitia, is interesting to scientists because of its apparent modification by liquid water. Sedimentary rocks like those revealed in the plateaus of this image can be emplaced by both wind and water. Erosional features in Terby give us an enticing view into the layers and may contain clues as to whether water once flowed across the surface. The enhanced-color subimage shows several gully-like features that cut across multiple sedimentary layers. (Up is to the left in this image.) Eroded material has been deposited in fans at the base of the plateau (lower right). The gully incisions reveal a fresher view (slightly bluish or purplish) of the layers making up the plateau than the uncut layers (brownish). There is a change in color (to a lighter, yellower tone) of the layers at the very top of the gully alcove (left) and the surface there becomes smoother and less steep. These differences in layer appearance likely indicate a difference in composition or resistance to erosion between the lighter and darker, and steeper and shallower, layers. Terby Crater was at one point a potential landing site for the Mars Science Laboratory rover. It is no longer under consideration for that mission, but it is still on the candidate list for potential future missions. Written by: Nicole Baugh

Tycho's Supernova Remnant
This new image of Tycho's supernova remnant, dubbed Tycho for short, contains striking new evidence for what triggered the original supernova explosion, as seen from Earth in 1572. Tycho was formed by a Type Ia supernova, a category of stellar explosion used in measuring astronomical distances because of their reliable brightness. Low and medium energy X-rays in red and green show expanding debris from the supernova explosion. High energy X-rays in blue reveal the blast wave, a shell of extremely energetic electrons. Also shown in the lower left region of Tycho is a blue arc of X-ray emission. Several lines of evidence support the conclusion that this arc is due to a shock wave created when a white dwarf exploded and blew material off the surface of a nearby companion star (see accompanying illustration below). Previously, studies with optical telescopes have revealed a star within the remnant that is moving much more quickly than its neighbors, hinting that it could be the companion to the supernova that was given a kick by the explosion. Other details of the arc support the idea that it was blasted away from the companion star. For example, the X-ray emission of the remnant shows an apparent "shadow" next to the arc, consistent with the blocking of debris from the explosion by the expanding cone of material stripped from the companion. This shadow is most obvious in very high energy X-rays showing iron debris. These pieces of evidence support a popular scenario for triggering a Type Ia supernova, where a white dwarf pulls material from a "normal," or Sun-like, companion star until a thermonuclear explosion occurs. In the other main competing theory, a merger of two white dwarfs occurs, and in this case, no companion star or evidence for material blasted off a companion, should exist. Both scenarios may actually occur under different conditions, but the latest Chandra result from Tycho supports the former one. The shape of the arc is different from any other feature seen in the remnant. Other features in the interior of the remnant include recently announced stripes, which have a different shape and are thought to be features in the outer blast wave caused by cosmic ray acceleration.
