For nearly seven hours early Saturday, a man used an ice pick to take a nine-year-old boy hostage in Quezon City – until the young hostage's mother came to the rescue.

For several hours, tension gripped the neighborhood along E. Rodriguez Avenue after the man, initially identified as Ramir Parparan, took the boy hostage.
