Whilst trying to write a dumb joke about the Pilgrims, my research led me to discover Thanksgiving was first celebrated only as recently as 1863.
1863, for those who aren't aware (i.e. Americans), was in the smack bang middle of the US Civil War.
With millions of men slaughtering each other based on whether they were born Mason or Dixie, and over the more legitimate debate regarding the ethics of Negro sex slaves and unpaid farm hands, Americans decided to start celebrating Thanksgiving.
Sick fucks.
