It is a matter of record that I possessed INTEL systems that had - literally - no use for batteries. I swear on your life (mine is worth less) that for months, I booted an INTEL DHxxxx desktop board without a battery and not only was the CMOS retained sans battery, I couldn't actually do a damn thing to wipe it.
I flashed that board's BIOS so many times, one day it just caught the fuck on fire when I was attempting yet another pin reset.
The fact that another system I hadn't really had time to flash (or bother with at all) simultaneously caught on fire was probably just one of those coincidental things. You know how spontaneous electrical fires are.
They're so spontaneous.
Be that as it may, the incident cost me two (2) pairs of my favourites jeans and my favourite shirt (of all time). ALL TIME.
Because maybe I'm a frightened little bitch but I'd only just woken up after speaking to INTEL about it all only earlier that morning. Their position was that I could should - and I quote - "clear the logs" to solve the CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR messages that were preventing my loading an operating system to operate my $1600 i7 machine. "Clear the logs", they suggested. In horror, I went to sleep. Woke up, and whoosh. Two computers in flames.
Call me crazy and you might be right, cause I really wish I'd have not been so hectic that I forgot my dirty laundry fml.
