It was a spoon fed ending with no magic or artistry, its purpose was to be trotted out to answer questions and fulfill a measure of perverse bloodlust among the viewership.
With the exception of Walt & Skyler's last meeting it offered absolutely nothing beyond the absolute bare minimum.
The fact that the reviewers are trotting out Tarantino comparisons for the machine gun scene speaks of its deficiencies far more eloquently than Im capable of.
What's the alternative? How do give closure to fans who have spent years watching the show? Give em a deadwood finale where everyone loses and the biggest asshole wins and laughs at everybody we rooted for as he rides outta town? A sopranos fade to black ambiguous finale? Put walt on trial and have him gets comeuppance via having to answer for his many sins (and then get breaking bad accused of ripping off Seinfeld). Have Walters plan fail, he gets killed, uncle Jack pisses on his corpse, Todd kills his family, and then series ends with a shot of pinkman "the Stockholm syndrome neo Nazi" five years later high fiving Todd after cracking the 99.2% purity barrier?

The alternative would be to compose a finale based on tempo and composition and mood that adhered to the shows commitment to avoiding formulaic appeals to the lowest common denominators in its fan base.
Trotting out examples of categorically bad finales and comparing them to a barely adequate one isnt going to do you any favors in this instance.
I did like that they gave walt an excuse to kill Lydia (even though it was completely implausible for him to get into skylars apartment in the first place without being arrested) and the absolute awkwardness of walt cockblocking Todd during his "date" with lydia (at least from Todd's viewpoint until walt left and Lydia had to spell it out for him).
I feel like i can come up with a dozen poignant and lyrical end games that preserve the standards and agendas that defined the show but I dont want to get into some faggoty shit where people pick one thing thats not made clear in the 2 or 3 sentences I use and point their fingers and say BUT DUDE LOL BLAH BLAH BLAH, I just dont have the patience.
Its super duper obvious to me that the writers were hamstrung, probably on several occasions, and just wanted this shit to end on a note with the broadest possible appeal.
Killing Andrea in the previous episode seems especially useless and disgusting at the moment as well.
