Day 1B of the
World Series of Poker Europe (WSOP-E) Championship Event is in the books in Cannes, France, with 205 players paying the €10,450 to get in on the action on Sunday. 115 of them survived to play in today’s Day 2 and will combine with the exact same number of players from Day 1A to form a single field.
Bertrand “ElkY†Grospellier emerged as Day 1B’s chip leader with 190,400, though that is good for just second overall, as Day 1A’s leader,
Michael “The Grinder†Mizrachi is tops overall with 234,850.
The 205 entrants on Sunday brought the overall total to 420, creating a prize pool of €4,032,000. The eventual winner will cash out for over €1,000,000 with a total of 48 players making the money. Here’s a look at the entire prize breakdown:

The upper rungs of the Day 1B leaderboard are populated with well-known names.
Daniel Negreanu used a flush to eliminate
Brandon Adams and his set of eights and double his chip stack during the second half of the day, the push he needed to eventually end up in 4th with the day was out.
Phil Hellmuth is not far behind in 6th place,
Chino Rheem finished the second starting flight in 8th place, and
Eugene Katchalov bagged the 10th most chips at the end of the night.
Liv Boeree and Sam Trickett are also threatening the leaders.
Grospellier’s game-changing hand came about halfway through the day. After both putting in 3,500 pre-flop, Grospellier and
Qiang Wang saw a flop of 7-9-2. Wang bet 4,500, Grospellier called, and the 5 was dealt on the turn. Wang bet 14,000 this time and Grospellier called once again. On the river 2, Grospellier took the initiative and bet 17,775. Wang called, but never showed his hand, as he mucked after seeing Grospellier’s K-K.
“ElkY†has already had a successful 2012, earning over $1.4 million from live tournaments. The highlights of his year came back in April when he won the €10,000 No Limit Hold’em – 8 Max Re-Entry event at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Berlin for €231,000 ($301,992) and placed 3rd in the €98,500 No Limit Hold’em – 8 Max Super High Roller Reload event at the
EPT Grand Final, which earned him €621,000 ($819,878).
