The thing is... You probably don't have much of a hard science background. So to you unique is a very unique word and you imagine it has having special properties as such. There is nothing else like it... right? Unusual is a good substitute, but thats not really relevant. So because unique is unique it is given some special treatment, held to some higher standard, etc. It really shouldn't be. That is just some false construct you've created to reinforce to yourself that you are an educated man.

Now if you were to say "very one if a kind" bothers you, I wouldn't take a stance.
