You can type @ followed by a username e.g. @SkyNigger anywhere in a post like Twitter, and that user will get a "Mentions" notification just like they would with rep.

Unsure how I feel about the first idea, it seems like it's going to muddle posts with @ crap everywhere and be annoying to read. The second part though I actually like quite a bit as I tend to skim and miss the board for days at a time, and typically someone will say something expecting me to read it and when I don't, I'm an asshole for missing what that person wrote.
Can we tag ourselves? I meant to ask you to create something just like this months ago so I could mark good posts for future reference but never got around to it. Kudos to you for a good idea.
My .02$ nix the first idea, the 2nd idea has some GOATness to it but please give us the power to block someone if we want to, in case that person just mass tags to every single thread in the universe to be annoying.
