It is now working like before. I was able to narrow down the source of the problem. Basically, a custom usergroup that restricts forum permissions, forced avatars, sigs or whatever doesn't properly work for some reason, but it would with the plugins and hooks disabled. Now I just have to figure out which one is specifically causing this.
