also artists are fronted x amount of money as a signing bonus
which they usually blow through really quickly obv
but that cash up front is going to be more than 10k in a major label deal so i dunno wtf you are smoking
jeez louise, listen dingleberry, out of the advance you're paying lawyer, manager, producer's upfront. You're paying touring costs for promo shows, accountants, labels no longer pay for recording costs, it comes out of the advance to ensure the artist keeps costs down, so your paying for that as well. About the only thing that doesn't come out of the advance nowadays is the marketing and packaging.
$1m deal with a two hundred advance for easiness.
~$200,000 advance
- 20% for manager - 160k
- 10% Lawyer - 140k
- 10% (plus points on back end) producer - 120k,
- 5% accountant - 110k
- 40k recording/mastering 70k
- 20k promo touring 50k
- 30k assorted bullshit, like equipment, clothes and food 20k
- 20k left which is then taxed
Advances evaporate not because of fish tanks in the wood dash, but because there's people to pay out and expenses to pay before the artist see a cent. You can argue it, but on a "million" deal the advance wouldn't be much more than 250k at most.
