</p>Amber Singleton is an Atlanta based artist who is the Director of Fine Arts/Department Chair at The Weber School. She earned a B.A. in Fine Art from Furman University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Winthrop University.

Amber explains her work by saying, “My artwork represents the visual exploration of how the human brain is connected to reality through mark making. Ever since I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 23 years old, I have been fascinated with my brain and its functions and capabilities, especially in relation to making art. I create because my mind tells me I must do this. It is an innate need. It is my belief that the concept of “flow” has a lot to do with this. Flow, developed by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, is a mental state in which a person is fully immersed in an activity and the success of that activity. Nothing else seems to matter. The harmony and balance I experience through the hypnotic sense of flow is connected to the physical act of mark making.”

Someone found Salem (on the right) with a big abdominal wound and his intestines hanging out. Perhaps he’d been attacked by a dog. He was taken to Nine Lives Foundation in Redwood City–a truly no-kill rescue and adoption center–where he was patched back up with TLC. I took him home to recover, with Sweetie and his sister Muffin to keep him company and comfort him. Miraculously, he healed up fine! Sweetie and Muffin have been adopted but Salem still needs a home. He’s a handsome boy and loves other cats.
