Your mother shouldn't have told you to "stand up" to bullies. She should have taught you to be sane. You're bright. How did it escalate to violence?
I've never been been in a fight. And hundreds of people have come up to me with the intention of getting violent. I almost always say what's on my mind.
You know honestly I have only been in a few "fights" in my life if you don't count being jumped by cowards a fight. For some reason (I blame rap music) the mid 90's were just a hot time period for senseless violence. My high school was like a prison, either you were in a gang or not. if not, you were unprotected and the cowards would do as cowards do..
Funny thing, fast forward a few years and I definitely had my revenge, although not the time or place for that conversation...
You are right though, fighting is senseless and petty, though you should also admit, there comes a time and place when there is no other option, and in that small place in time, work must be done. I have faithfully carried out such works, and though not proud of them, I still have my head held high knowing that sometimes the ignorant listen not to the word but to the iron fist. I can speak either you know, the choice is up to them.
