Our physical bodies are beautiful structures full of detail, and they hold the stories that haunt and mold our lives. The lines on a road map are beautifully similar to the lines that cover the surface of the human body.

In my most recent work involving maps, as I remove the landmasses from the silhouetted individuals I am further removing the figure’s identity, and what remains is a delicate skin-like structure. Through this process, specific individuals become ambiguous and hauntingly ghost-like, similar to the memories they represent.

Daisy is the most awesome dog you could ever ask for! She is a Greyhound, Bull Terrier, Labrador, and Collie--a real mix. She loves going to the dog park and playing with all the other dogs. She is very vocal--she makes so much noise when you are eating and she really wants your food. She loves having cuddles in the morning. She lays next to me when I am in bed (and maybe even sometimes in my bed...shhhh!). She is always happy to see me. She wiggles her tail so much that she makes her whole body wiggle. All in all, she is the best dog ever!

Polenta
Marilena says: Polenta's mother disappeared when she was about 25 days old (she was an outdoors cat, and for not going back to her litter we’re guessing something bad must have happened to her). For about a week her kittens were ‘cared for’ by this person who actually couldn’t care less… he would feed them three times a day with cow milk, and they didn’t even have a blanket or something warm to sleep on! It was a litter of four, but when we heard about them and went to their rescue, one was already gone. :( They arrived at the vet clinic in really bad shape, and even though we did all we could, on the next day the second one crossed the bridge as well, and so I decided to bring the remaining two to my house, where I could keep an eye on them full time.

Now Polenta and her brother are thriving, each day growing stronger, and couldn’t be more loving and delicious kittens! She is available for adoption through our adoption organization resGatinhos in Sao Paolo, Brazil -- if I can stand to let her go that is. ;-)
