Behemoth, try and wrap your hillbilly head around this- at the time of my trip, I could fill my gas tank for $20 and only filled her all the way 3 times each way. I used to play a game actually, to pass the time, in that I would have to piss and would literally force myself to hold it in rest stop after rest stop until I literally couldn't hold it anymore, and then I'd get gas, but never because I had to. I really think my car, on cruise control, was capable of 35-36mpg, and I'm not fooling. Had an aftermarket air filter, very lightweight rims, vnice transmission etc, and the car was very aero-dynamic.
Oh why am I bothering...you are right, the trip cost thousands in gas, you got me.

Dude, you're busted. Just admit you couldn't go 3550 miles on $150 worth of gas and this will all go away. Otherwise, I will dig deeper into your treachery and you will look even more foolish than you do now.

You have been warned.
If you factor in A FULL TANK OF GAS to start the trip, 3 fill ups there and three back, I used 55.5x2= 111gallons total which I paid for, plus the 18.5 gallons I had to start the trip with, and you arrive at 128-130 gallons total used, roughly.
The price of gas in october, 2003, when I left was around 1.20 per gallon (keep in mind, as I said, for $20 I could FILL MY TANK, which was 18.5 gallons) which when multiplied to our 120 gallon estimate, comes out to around $154.00 or so. Also keep in mind, the $1.20 was bay area pricing, it got much lower across the midwest. At times I am sure it was hovering around the $1.14 per gallon range.
