Like Russian model Anne Vyalitsyna, it's looking like red dawn at the 2011 WSOP as the Russians are heating up.


Saturday night was the first genuine buzz moment of the 2011 WSOP, as Phil Hellmuth and his surprisingly large cheering section fell to John Juanda. So Sunday was more subdued, back to non-big-name final tables and focus on the Heat-Mavs finals (all the big names had a sweat on Game 6).

Here’s the latest.

:: Event #17 ($1,500 H.O.R.S.E.) – Indiana’s own Aaron Steury took this one down, capturing his first bracelet. For the win, Steury banked $289,283.He defeated former bracelet winner Michael Chow ($178,691) heads-up for the title.Adam Friedman, a ginger (the kid who cried at the WSOP Main Event years ago), finished third for$121,437. :: Event #18 ($1,500 NLHE) – The massive field of 3,157 has played down to 36. Foster Hayes is chip leader, stacked at 1,250,000. He’s followed byJordan Young with 1,082,000. It’s a mostly friends and family remaining field. Newlyweds Erick Lindgren & Erica Schoenberg finished 241st and 100th respectively. First will earn a whopping $735,400. :: Event #19 ($2,500 Six-Handed Limit Hold’em) – A total of 12 players return, led by two former Maxist-Leninist. Alexander Kuzmin is the overall chip leader, stacked at 412,500. He’s followed by Andrey Zaichenko with 315,500. Matt Matros is the uber-short stack with69,000. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #20 ($1,000 NLHE) – A total of 3,175 players with 342 players remaining (324 get paid). Douglas Lang ended the day as chip leader, stacked at 119,700. Some notable names remain include but are certainly not limited to Lex Veldhuis (73,000), Amnon Filippi (65,400), Hoyt Corkins (46,700) and Jason Somerville (36,500). Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #21 ($10,000 7CS) – The final event of the day brought in a respectable field of 126. The star-studded field is led by non-star-stud Sebastien Sabic with 129,900. He’s followed by Alexander Kostritsyn (105,600) and Joe Cassidy (92,900). Other notable big stacks include The Intense Stare of Scott Clement (80,300), Erick Lindgren (74,000), Jennifer Harman (69,600), and Men “the Master” Nguyen (65,400). Get full chip counts here.

Today's picture is from 1863. The child's name is Rebecca Huger, and she was a slave in New Orleans. I found John's comments interesting yesterday, as he was wondering how anyone could have even maintained a self-consistent rationalization for some of the darker aspects associated with slavery. This is the information I have on Rebecca.



REBECCA HUGER is eleven years old, and was a slave in her father's house, the special attendant of a girl a little older than herself. To all appearance she is perfectly white. Her complexion, hair, and features show not the slightest trace of negro blood. In the few months during which she has been at school she has learned to read well, and writes as neatly as most children of her age. Her mother and grandmother live in New Orleans, where they support themselves coumfortshly by their own labor. The grandmother, an intelligent mulatto, told Mr. Bacon that she had "raised" a large fanmily of children, but these are all that are left to her.

We did muse ourselves something this weekend, wondering if the eighteen year old Selena Gomez might have checked herself into the hospital overnight under an assumed name because of being in a motherly way. Our friends at TMZ disputed our suggestions, but, we're not retracting our underlying theory that when a teenage girl goes on a sex-filled vacation romp with the Devil's Midget, she might be the bearer of baby tidings not long after. Let's face it, a purple hoodie does not a prophylactic make.

We certainly hope we're wrong. The mere images of Justin Bieber privates-grabbing and dry humping our beloved Selena Gomez on the volcanic beaches of the 50th state was nearly too much for us to handle; the thought that he might have invaded Selena's inner sanctum with Satan's offspring, it's unthinkable. But we have to think it. It's our job. Be well, Selena, whatever ails you.
