Joseph Patterson: Ten Grime Tracks of the Last Decade
Filed under: Around the Web
Grime music was never supposed to last this long -- according to aging music critics who have probably never attended a grime club night or listened to Rinse FM in their life -- but ten years on, it's still churning out the potential chart-toppers of tomorrow.
To celebrate the longevity of the scene, I've called on a few friends -- who have all played a major part in the growth of the genre throughout the years -- to help me choose ten tracks that has gone on to define the ever-evolving grime sound over the last decade.
In no particular order...
Crazy Titch - 'I Can C U'
An MC known for unleashing anger on the mic, Crazy Titch had an aggressive, yet skippy flow that could cause damage on any given beat - even if it did sound like untranslatable noise, at times. Fuelled by nothing but raw passion for the music, Titch went on to gain a loyal legion of fans, inspiring some of today's most highly-rated MCs along the way. 'I Can C U' is grime in its rawest form.
Lethal B - 'Pow! (Forward)'
Undeniably one of the scene's biggest anthems, 'Pow! (Forward)' caused absolute havoc in clubland when it was released back in 2004. It still causes riots today. Literally! When NME magazine latched on to this mosh-pit-making grime number, the rest of the mainstream media quickly followed suit. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a 100% grime track receive the same amount of (good) press attention. Here's hoping it doesn't take another decade for the new wave of MCs to come up with something equally impressive.

BG - April 11, 2011
BG
Denise says: BG showed up on my front porch in December 09 trying to scrounge food from my outside cat of the time. I hadn't intended on bringing him in but we got snow and with his tiny size and coloring he showed up too much for the hawks that nest a few houses down against the white snow. He's been inside since and is scared of the outside now. Ironically I was fresh out of cat names and just called him BG (baby girl). A trip to the vet showed me I was wrong but he knew BG by that time. So I figured it could stand for Big Guy. Ironically he's the smallest cat I've ever had! When he arrived, he joined my family of six cats and four bunnies. Ebony was the only one that would put up with his play. Killer swatted him, Ranger ran from him, Gypsy hissed and ran as did Muffin, Sherlock tried to kill him, and Merlin just ignored him. Everyone quieted down eventually and there is harmony now.

'Gagarin' Rock Examined by Opportunity
In this image from 2005, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity used its rock abrasion tool on a rock informally named "Gagarin" during the 401st and 402nd Martian days, or sols, of the rover's work on Mars (March 10 and 11, 2005). This false-color image shows the circular mark created where the tool exposed the interior of the rock Gagarin at a target called "Yuri." The circle is about 1.8 inches (4.5 centimeters) in diameter. Gagarin is at the edge of a highly eroded, small crater that was informally named Vostok for the spacecraft that carried Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in the first human spaceflight, on April 12, 1961. This image combines exposures taken through three different filters by Opportunity's panoramic camera on Sol 405 (March 14, 2005). The view is presented in false color to emphasize differences among materials in the rocks and the soils. Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/Cornell Univ./ASU

The Guadalupe Fur Seal - Back from Extinction
The Guadalupe fur seal ( Arctocephalus townsendi) spends much of its time in the water, coming to land to breed. Named for their main breeding ground, Isla Guadalupe, the seals have been spotted on islands off the coast of Baja California, Mexico, as well as islands off the coast of southern California in the US. The elusive Guadalupe fur seal has not been studied much because of the rarity of sightings.
In the 19th century, Guadalupe fur seals were nearly driven into extinction along the Baja California coast by commercial sealers. Colonies off the southern California coast vanished by 1892, when the entire species consisted of only seven known seals. For a time, Guadalupe fur seals were believed to be extinct. Until 1954, only five seals had been spotted in addition to two Guadalupe fur seals that were housed in the San Diego Zoo. In 1954, a colony of 14 Guadalupe fur seals was spotted, and the species has been able to make a comeback. Despite the re-population of the species, the Guadalupe fur seal remains the rarest of the fur seals, and is still listed on the US endangered species list. In the 1970s, Isla Guadalupe was officially declared a refuge for the seals by the Mexican government, and the island population has grown to over 7,000.
Guadalupe fur seals grow to an adult size of 2.2m (7.2 feet) and 188kg (414.5 pounds) for males, and 1.5m (4.9 feet) and 49kg (108 pounds) for females, and have a lifespan of 17 - 20 years. The diet of the fur seal consists almost entirely of fish, which the seals swim out to sea to hunt. Guadalupe fur seals are sometimes hunted by great white sharks, but historically the populations has been impacted most by the commercial sealing industry. Populations of the Guadalupe fur seals are limited to colonies, as the species does not migrate. Colonies occasionally relocate, but only if driven out of their current habitat.
Although the species does not migrate, the seals do have separate areas used for day-to-day living, and their May-July breeding season, when they prefer rocky, secluded areas. After giving birth, female Guadalupe fur seals venture out to sea for a 2-6 day feeding session.

Abe-the-Labrador-Retriever-
Abe joined our family recently and we absolutely love him. He's very friendly, energetic, and playful but loves to cuddle and take naps. We recently lost an older yellow Lab and Abe is the perfect new puppy for our family. Being outside is his favorite thing to do, he loves chasing sticks and chewing on them. Taking walks is something he likes too but he sometimes likes to bite the leash instead of walking. He has the most adorable puppy eyes that instantly can make anyone happy. He loves playing with his cousins, two golden retrievers, which live right next to us. He tries to keep up but sometimes his little legs get too tired. Most of all, he loves going to work at construction sites with his human Daddy. He "supervises" all day and loves the interaction with all the new people he meets. Abe is all around a lovable and adorable puppy and everyone who sees him falls in love with him.

Snapped: Ciara's Barely-There Concert Wear
Filed under: Hot or Not
This past weekend, Ciara was spotted performing at the Sydney Supafest music festival along with the likes of Keri Hilson, Nelly and T-Pain.
What's the point in working so hard for that body if you can't flaunt it, right? Share Tweet
The singer performed in skin-tight black leggings with a cropped see-through and black-striped top. Despite her many dance moves, there was nary a muffin top or hint of flab to be found.
Is her outfit too revealing for a concert, or is this just good ol' Ciara? Tell us: Was she hot or not?
