i have been following what is going on over there lately and yeah i agree things have gotten much worse since the coup

problem is there is lots of conflicting info about as to exactly how much worse things have gotten but it seems that main problem, for me at least, of the police randomly searching and piss testing foreigners on the street is only in a few areas of bkk.

its still easy enough to live there for a year on tourist visa but yeah if i dont like it can always go try somewhere else in the region

thing is thailand is the only country i have been to in asia and i already know a few people living there so seems like the best place to start

i mean i am not saying you are wrong and am keen to hear whatever you have heard re: how bad things are so i can see how this meshes with what i have heard

i know there was a proposed crack down on people entering repeatedly on tourist visas and 30 day visa exemptions but this still hasnt properly been implimented (and may never actually happen)

also talk of blacklisting overstayers but again still hasnt happened, honestly i dont think thailand even knows if it does or doesnt want us

if you want to do visa runs, i mean, ok. not really my scene tho. re cops, there was a period where the cops were targetting tourists around asoke and other upscale tourist spots but apparently now its absolutely everywhere, all the time.

there is a facebook group devoted to people who have gotten fucked over by thai cops and its doing depressingly brisk business.

Yeah its pretty grim at the moment alright, wont commit myself to staying longer than a couple months and then take it from there.

Vietnam may well be worth a look have you been there yourself ?
