About Maggie:

Maggie Evans was born in Denton, Texas in 1980. She graduated from Utah State University with a BFA in Illustration in 2003 and received an MFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007.

Maggie’s art is perpetuated by her intimacy with music. Her current portfolio is based on her experiences playing bass in a blues band in bars throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Working from memory in charcoal on paper, Maggie uses an improvisatory approach to explore the gritty character of bars from her perspective as a musician.

Maggie’s work is included in several private and public collections throughout the United States. She was awarded the Graduate Fellows Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005 and has received placement awards in a number of group exhibitions. Maggie has had five solo exhibitions and has been included in several invitational exhibits as well as over twenty-five group shows. In addition to working as an artist, she performs regularly throughout the southeast as the bassist and vocalist of Silver Lining, David Lugo and Latin Jazz Motion, and the Hitman Blues Band.

Ava DuVernay, the film director behind the critically lauded I Will Follow and a champion for black independent film, is already working on her her next feature, Middle of Nowhere, which is slated for release next year. The movie stars Emayatzy Corinealdi as a woman dealing with the fallout from the incarceration of her husband, played by David Oyelowo.

DuVernay announced that she'd added Edwina Findley, who is probably best known as one of Omar's partners in larceny on HBO's The Wire, and Omari Hardwick, who appeared in Follow and Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls.

Nu [redux]
Sappymoosetree says: Nu came after the passing of my 18-year-old childhood cat. I didn't think I wanted a new cat, but when my friend told me her mom was watching after a kitten who lost some of her toes and the tip of her tail after being stuck in a car engine that had been driving for four hours, I said I would at least look at a picture of her. It just took one picture before I needed to meet her and then eventually claim her as mine. I can only describe things in terms of life before Nu and life after Nu. I didn't realize a cat could have sooooo much personality and act like a tiny controlling teenager. She won't take no for an answer, has to have it her way or no way, and needs to personally inspect everything by touching her nose to every object in the house four times a day. It didn't take long for us to realize how she ended up stuck in the car. Nothing breakable is safe in this house. (That or her mom couldn't stand her anymore and stuck her in there, heh!) Regardless, she is insane but we love her for that.
