thinking about the midterms, i think trump has more reason to be concerned than i thought before.
pennsylvania, michigan and wisconsin went blue and were states trump needed to win. if they stay blue in 2020, doesn't trump probably lose?
i also read that the senate seats up in 2020 are all vulnerable for republicans except the alabama seat, which is the exact opposite of this midterm. there's even a chance dems take the senate.

If nothing else changes from the 2016 map, he only needs to win one of those three in 2020. There are other conceivable scenarios where he could lose all three.
The 2020 senate seats are exaggerated. Alabama is a lock obviously barring some kind of other Roy Moore cowboy ephebophile. They have to lose 6 of the 8 toss ups of seats held at this point and not flip the one or two other potential Democrat held tossups.

I think it's easier to just say that if Trump wins any one of these, he's re-elected: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, or Pennsylvania.
As it stands, there's no candidate on the Democrat side that has a chance at winning Ohio or Florida. Scott winning in Florida is a bad sign for Democrats, and then on top of that DeSantis upset a very strong candidate too.

jon tester ended up keeping his senate seat in montana -- a state trump won by 20 points. now it looks like the GOP may have picked up just one seat in the senate, despite all the competitive races being in heavily red areas.
and they will have ended up losing about 38 house seats after it's all said and done.
in all seriousness, there is no way this can be spun as a good trump night.
