pretty sure oats were overtaken by quinoa in 2016 and chia is creeping right up there, i blame congress for failing to institute a ban on suspicious foreign grains
I mean, i feel like with the advent of couscous in the mid 90s america had more than enough hippy shit to last us through the 21st century and beyond. And oats could have quietly maintained their position at the very bottom of the grain hierarchy.
Cream of wheat, definitely terrible. Grits, also terrible. Maybe both worse than oatmeal. But at least you can make wheat and corn into a million things that are way the fuck better than some kind of porridge mush. What the fuck can you make with oats?
if you get the slow cook oats, throw in cinnamon, vanilla extract, cook in milk, toss in banana, salt, a bit of butter, you got something that transcends coastal rivalry.
