GRESHAM, Ore. ? Gresham police say a Christmas Grinch may have used a trailer instead of a sleigh to get away with dozens of Christmas trees for sale at the Pacific Northwest Teen and Adult Challenge lot on Powell Boulevard early Tuesday.

The lot is on the property of the Family Worship Center, and the church was a victim as well.

"They stole the church?s old white van and trailer," said Teen PNW Outreach Coordinator Mike Odell.

"I can?t prove that the two are connected, but it makes sense, you know, steal the van and trailer and then come over here and take our trees," he said.

Odell says the group lost about $5,000 worth of trees and other stuff.

"They cleaned us out, everything we have out here now, tables, tents, this is all new. They stole 25 extension cords that we had out here, all our lights, everything," he said.

The gate on the lot has a shiny new padlock and chain.

"They actually had to use a grinder to get through. I had to go buy another one, but the old one was just as thick, but they left behind the two pieces of chain-link they cut through, so it wasn?t just bolt cutters. They had a grinder, so they knew what they were doing; they planned this," said Odell.

The thieves even made off with the hand sanitizer from the portable toilet the group is using.

Odell says it's a huge hit to their ministry, which provides counseling and help to recovering addicts. Every dollar from the tree sales goes right back into the program.

The trees themselves may lead police to the crooks. They're not exactly like other trees at other lots in the Portland area.

"This lot and our other lot are the only ones that have trees from Kirk Farms, k-i-r-k, so they say it on the tag, Kirk Farms, so if anybody else other than our two tree lots is selling trees from Kirk Farms, they?re our trees," said Odell.

PNW Teen and Adult Challenge has another lot at the Sunnyside Foursquare Church in Happy Valley.

As much as getting all the stolen stuff back, Odell hopes whoever took it gets this message: "We love you and we forgive you. And if you need help, give us a call and maybe you can be a part of our program."
