Saying the words aloud makes little to no difference, or at least it doesn't for me. I have always been able to read without subvocalizing and honestly do think in pictures, not words, but when it comes to getting ready to actually say something, the use of my vocal cords and physically hearing myself is the only thing different than listening to my subvocalized thoughts in my mind.

Vaughn, I'm sure your subjective assessment of your cognition seems really valid to you, but you don't know what you're talking about.
I do understand that speaking aloud is an entirely different process than subvocalizing one's thoughts, but I am, for the most part, equally proficient at both.

And for the record, I did say it aloud once or twice when first coming across the picture, and it made no difference then, just like it doesn't now.
