1. They're meeting the gooks to sell them microprocessors. They know one guy amongst them is a rat after the fact from Sullivan. There's Costello, Fitzy, French, Delahunt, and Costigan. Fitzy, French, Delahunt have been with Costello for seemingly 10-20 years. Costigan is the new guy, used to be a cop, etc. Gee, I wonder who the rat is?
2. No automatic weapons. Really? You're going to do a million dollar deal with a bunch of gooks for some stolen microprocessors that control missiles, and you think that it'll be a cut and dry in and out? Especially when you're selling them light sockets.
2a. Going to pick up 50 or so keys of cocaine and don't have automatics? Ok fine. But hey, then you decide to get into a shootout with the police who are 10 deep. Wait a minute, let me understand this. You decide to get into a shootout with 20+ cruisers, swat vans, etc. So if you're not going to be arrested, hey I know, why not have some firepower so you can at least get away? Nah. Revolvers and a shotgun work well in shootouts.
2b. Oh, but wait, YOU DO have an automatic weapon. Look closely, as a guy's getting shot by the police, he pulls what looks like a Mac-11 out. You'll have to pause it but it's there.
3. Costello is so paranoid he usually "kills everybody works for me in these situations", but yet he won't kill Costigan? He was at the meet where the rat was at. He was late to the shootout on Washington street. He refused to stick around while his info was being checked out. He used to be a cop.
4. Costello confronts him for being a rat and he looks pretty rattled. Later on in the conversation he threatens to kill Costello. I don't think that would've been left alone.
That said, the movie is based loosely on Whitey Bulger and he was a weird guy. But those things don't add up to me in the movie.
