can someone explain the song 'ordinary world' by duran duran to me? how/why/etc?

because seriously they went from visionary disco synth from planet cocaine-is-awesome and suddenly we have 'ordinary world' which in terms of its chord structure might seriously be a bon jovi tune.

whats weirdest is that simon le bon pulls it off despite sounding like he recorded his vocals with all the passion of a man trying to find the bisquick at a supermarket. is it in the breakfast foods? baking goods? ill just check both. pride will tear us both apaaaaaaart.. ah, baking goods.
