Please weigh in here, because there are many "best" margarita recipes.
I made one this week that was fantastic, but I'd like to learn other recipes.
Thoughts?
* 2 ounces 100 percent agave tequila
* 1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
* 1/2 ounce Gran Marnier
* 4 limes
* 1/2 small orange
* 2 tablespoons light agave nectar (use this instead of simple syrup - it's the bomb)
* 3/4 cup ice cubes
Pour 1/2-ounce of the tequila into a small saucer. Spread the kosher salt in another saucer. Dip the rim of a margarita glass into the tequila. Lift out of and dip the glass into the salt to coat the rim. Set aside.
Squeeze the limes and the orange into the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the agave nectar. Add the tequila and ice to the shaker, cover and shake vigorously until ice crystals form on the outside of the shaker. (My husband enjoys this part the best because it results in a full-on boobie-shake.) Strain the mixture into the prepared glass, and garnish with a lime slice. Serve immediately.
This margarita tastes to me like the ones they serve at El Barrio, a gourmet Mexican place in Phoenix that is awesome (and super hard to get a table unless you want to wait an hour). They make the fresh guacamole at your table - pretty sweet. I had been trying for some time to figure out what they did differently, and I now believe it's the agave as a replacement for the simple syrup.
