If you put this in a movie people would think it was too contrived.

In all seriousness the 16 was the worst score on a par-4 in pro golf history. he shot 4 under for the rest of the way for a respectable 80 round. if he had birdied that hole he is the leader at 67.
And he truly took a chainsaw to the tree later.
good article

One of my hometown buddies is up to 142 ranking in the world, 50 something in the US in golf. He is like 53rd on the PGA money list after dropping a $113k ball at the Colonial in Fort Worth last weekend (boom).
they draw out the world rankings a few years cause Tiger Woods is still in the top 10 in ranking. For my buddy Chris to go from #205 in the world at the beginning of the year to #142 without a single top 9 finish in just a few months is pretty solid.
My other buddies were better than him and they are major university head golf coaches now. The best player we knew had serious mental issues in tournies. This kid could literally shoot a 61 course record in his sandles. All time greatest countryclub golf hustler. Up until 6 years ago when his kid was born this guy nicknamed "Red Dog" would convince my frat brothers to get a invite tom their country club for a cut of the hustle. He would play like a normal guy but pretend to be a flashy idiot "nouveau riche" guest of the country club member we were friends with. He would wear outrageous clothes like a black person as part of the hustle. He would throw at 5k cash or more...and offer first 5 strokes then 10 strokes to a guy that would be a solid player/local champ type of guy. He would collect every time. best player i ever seen play better than all the current pros.....but just could play in a qualifier. His stomach would hurt. Golf is so mental its unbelievable. Tigers game was all mental too. obv.
TLDR all my friends were unreal good at gold making me believe I sucked until later in life.

He should've turned the chainsaw around and stuck it in his belly. Then he would have honor.
