Facebook has found an innovative way to encourage use of its email service: reach into users' mobile phone address books and change the email addresses stored against each contact to their Facebook email account.
Seems unethical but pretty tame compared to some of the genuine horror going on. This is basically the Human Problem, as it stands.
But the Google+ users were all like "This is why Google should be trusted. They Do No Evil, etc."
Google do a lot of evil. But then I don't blame Google for the evil Toddlers force them to do. I understand why Toddlers are exploited. I think I've always known, on some level, that the exploitation of imbeciles is almost always their fault unless they're a child being exploited by creeps.
Google's intentions are likely a great deal more honourable than humans permit, because humans literally demand to be exploited.
We scream like toddlers when something doesn't 'work'. A year ago, a new Chromium release brought in a new security feature which interrupted downloads where the web servers had incorrectly specified content-lengths of downloads.
The official Chrome explanation to users:
Quote:
Some servers will send a Content-Length which exceeds the number of bytes sent in the message body. Some web sites set it to an incorrect value. If it is smaller than the data being sent, we set it to 0 internally (meaning we don't know the size of the data). If it is larger than the data being sent, then it presents a potential attack vector.
Although this violates the RFC spec, other major browsers permit it and treat a download as complete in that case. Chrome did as well prior to M12, and now some users are unable to access the item that they downloaded.
Do you think users said "Thank you Google for protecting us from those who Do Evil?"
Nah. They threw tantrums, ranted at Chromium for interrupting their unsafe downloads. They threatened that if the 'bug' wasn't fixed, they would go back to FF and IE (who weren't protecting them).
The Chromium guys made the case for why it wasn't a 'bug'. I wasn't all that technical but it seemed pretty fucking clear-cut to me. I read in horror as Chromium weakened under the pressure...more and more users were threatening to go back to FF and IE where downloads "just worked"...under more and more pressure, with the sane arguments of a few posters being drowned out by the screams of petulant imbeciles, Chromium techs started bending first 'accepting' it as a 'bug'...and I laughed in derision when Chromium finally snapped under the pressure; giving in to the demands of toddler humans who demanded to _not_ be protected from what amounts to [incompetence at best, malice at worst]. All users cared about was their accessing their corrupted downloads. Imbeciles made arguments about Google infringing on their liberty. It was surreal.
They've literally done this. They've made humans this narcissistic.
It really just explains everything about the Human Problem.
The Human Problem is your ignorance and apathy and your toddler threats where you levy demands for your own exploitation. You'll just go with whomever insults you more brazenly, that's what you appreciate and respect. You'll allow Cpl Manning to be imprisoned for years without being charged, tortured for all you know or care, and you'll gobble up Zuckerberg's exploitation of your unfathomable ignorance by buying into his IPO. You worship those who exploit you just "because we can". It happened when I exploited you.
Oh sure Toddlers will whine and complain when they get abused; they'll cry and scream and gnash their teeth when their children are killed (they're blissfully quiet when they are killed though, I kinda appreciate that on some level) but not only will Toddlers tolerate their exploitation, they literally demand to be exploited. How can those who might want to "Do No Evil" compete when you don't let them be competitive unless they allow Evil?
Google buckled. I think they pretty much had to. The Final Solution to the Human Problem with the Security Feature that wasn't a bug:
Quote:
The latest Dev version of Chrome (14.0.797.0) changes the logic of download interrupt detection, as does the latest Canary.
They changed the logic. It's what all the human toddlers wanted, demanded and threatened Google in order to get. The market spoke. And the logic was changed.
I literally fled facebook last october or so and haven't looked back, not even on my birthday. Fuck that vile creepy shit, I want it nowhere near me or any electronic devices I have. The clincher for me was when I read the air force had a small army of fake people who are bots that go around befriending people and acting/speaking like they are from whatever area they claim and try to network around, collecting information on everyone they come in contact with.
Facebook acknowledged this, people didn't care. I get laughed at by my friends for even mentioning it, like how could I be upset, what do I have to hide?
The fuck is wrong with people? It's not about whether you are a bad person or not, it's about YOUR FUCKING PRIVACY and not being ok with the government trampling all over our damned rights by doing CREEPY CREEPY SHIT. SHIT LIKE HAVING AN ARMY OF FAKE HUMAN BEINGS ON FACEBOOK COLLECTING DATA AND CHANGING YOUR CONTACTS IN YOUR CELL PHONE, YA KNOW
CREEPY VILE SHIT LIKE THAT
AM I THE ONLY SANE PERSON IN THIS GODFORSAKEN WORLD??????
