Imagine waking up to find an additional £50,000 sitting in your bank account.
Actually, scrap that. Imagine going to bed knowing if just two football results fall your way, you’ll wake to find an additional £50,000 sitting in your bank account.
Would you drift off merrily or be up all night frantically searching Twitter for results?
Well for British heptathlete Karla Drew, who is trained in Sheffield by Toni Minichiello (he of Jessica Ennis-Hill fame), that’s exactly what happened.
The 25-year-old Liverpool fan placed a £5 bet on a 10-team accumulator, covering this week’s international friendlies and went to bed last night needing just a Uruguay victory and a draw between Panama and Canada to scoop the cash.
And she will certainly have been pleased to hear her alarm go off this morning, with Uruguay having run out 2-1 winners against Chile and Panama holding Canada to a 0-0 stalemate.
Victories last night for Brazil, Estonia, Italy, Portugal, Germany, France and England, as well as a draw between Poland and Switzerland, landed the athlete a cool £50,354.
‘This is a life-changing win for me. Being an MSC student, I’m not entitled to any student loan. I want to continue my studies and do a PhD in sports psychology and this will enable me to realise my dream,’ Drew told BetVictor, who have paid out in full.
